Shortcut for bringing up sound and display preferences (posted: 11-06-04 10:46 AM)

This is a great shortcut for directly opening up the "Sound" or "Display" panes of your Mac system preferences. PowerBook users with external USB speakers might find this one particularly useful: when you return to your desk, just use this shortcut to quickly bring up the sound preferences and switch your audio output back to your USB speakers. Or, you can use it to change a display setting on your Mac that doesn't appear in the "Displays" menu bar.

Just hold down the option key while you press either the sound or screen brightness adjustment keys on your Mac keyboard, and the appropriate preferences pane will pop right up (for USB keyboards, the screen brightness keys are mapped to "F14" and "F15.").
