How safe are your passwords? Use Apple's Keychain Access to find out. (posted: 12-06-04 11:57 AM)
Have you ever wondered just how safe your passwords are? If you're running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), you've got a built-in utility you can use to test the strength of your passwords.
Open the "Keychain Access" program, located in /Applications/Utilities. Then select "File > New Keychain." Give this dummy keychain a name and location, then click "Create".
In the next dialogue box you see, there will be a round button with the letter "i" in it. Click this button, and you'll see a 2nd window open below the password entry window. Then type and re-type your password in the upper box, and you'll see your passwords strength represented numerically in the lower box, along with some tips on how to make it better.
