Using alternate SMTP sending ports on your iPhone (posted: 8-24-07 1:57 PM)
There are many situations, typically dictated by ISP outgoing traffic filters, where you'll need to use an SMTP port other than 25 for sending mail. Ports 587, 465, and 995 are common alternates. The iPhone doesn't give you the typical "port" field to specify this, which is typical of desktop email applications.
Despite this, the SMTP server port can be specified on the iPhone, simply by appending the SMTP server name with a colon, and then the desired port number, in the "SMTP Server" entry field.
So, for example, if you use "mail.myserver.com" as your SMTP server and you want to use port 587, you'd enter "mail.myserver.com:587" in the SMTP server field.
It's that easy!
